APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY BASED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT CUSTOM DESIGNED TRAINING PROGRAM TO DEVELOP SUPERVISORY SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES

SITUATION
The Human Resources Director
for a multi-national manufacturing company asked for a custom designed training seminar for the company’s production assembly line supervisors. The HR Director wanted to provide supervisory training to improve the supervisory communication skills and competencies of individuals who had come through the ranks and were now supervisors.

APPROACH
In collaborative discussions with the HR Director we custom designed a training program that focused on:

Best practices for positive workplace communications.
The use of positive questioning techniques for planning effective workplace solutions.
Tips for positive and affirmative employee-supervisor conversations for:
  • Appreciative performance appraisal.
  • Constructive appreciative feedback.
  • Giving clear, unambiguous assignments.
  • Effective recognition and praise.

We also provided training on reframing techniques to transform deficit workplace vocabulary to possibilities for effective solutions.

RESULTS
During a site visit of one of the production sites several months later, we learned from some of the class participants that they were successfully using the lessons learned for more positive workplace communications with their employees. The class participants indicated that the techniques they learned were contributing to a more positive, productive and team based work environment.
